Online application process to save small businesses time and speed up approvals

(Washington, DC) – The Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) has recently launched its new Certified Business Enterprise (“CBE”) Online application system designed to simplify and quicken the application process for CBE certification. Businesses will now be able to submit all required information in the online system without visiting the office. For both returning and new applicants, this enhancement translates to a more streamlined approach to the certification process. Prior to the new system, applicants were required to schedule individual sessions with an assigned specialist.

DSLBD serves as the District’s advocate for small businesses seeking opportunities, capacity building, and access to capital. The Department envisions that improvements to the application process will boost participation in the CBE program. To assist with navigating the new system, DSLBD has scheduled a technical assistance session to take place on February 12th  from 1 pm -3 pm.  Applicants can visit dslbd.dc.gov to register.

“This is a major step forward for the CBE program. It reinforces our commitment to ensure that small and local businesses can navigate our services effectively,” said DSLBD Director, Robert Summers.” “The ability to conduct transactions efficiently is vital to keeping up with the changing demands of the small business climate. The new online application process will dramatically cut down the application process and speed up application approval times.”

One of the most progressive local inclusion programs in the country, the CBE Program provides bona fide District businesses with advantages in participating in District Government contracts and development projects. DSLBD’s 30-day standard for processing CBE applications is among the most aggressive certification standards in the country.
