The DC Youth Entrepreneurship Program (DCYEP) is a 6‑week, accelerator‑style experience led by the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) in partnership with the Department of Employment Services (DOES) through the Marion Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP).

MBSYEP, a nationally recognized program created by Mayor Marion Barry, has provided thousands of young people in DC with meaningful summer work experiences. Through our partnership with DOES, DCYEP expands that legacy—offering young adults not just jobs, but the skills and confidence to become business owners themselves.

The program is designed for youth ages 18–24, equipping them with the tools, mentorship, and real‑world exposure to launch and grow a business.

Participants will:

• Earn $17.50/hour during the program

• Build business plans and pitch decks

• Learn directly from experienced industry leaders

• Develop entrepreneurial, financial, and leadership skills

Celebrate the innovation and dedication of our youth at HQ House by The Burns Brothers, where participants will pitch their business concepts to a panel of judges. This is your chance to see the next generation of DC’s business leaders in action.

This culminating event will feature nine youth entrepreneurs who have completed a six-week summer business development intensive. Each participant will present their business concept to a panel of judges and compete for $2,500 in seed funding to support the launch of their ventures.
