(Washington, DC) – The DC Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) today announced the hiring of new staff in response to the re-launch of the DC Procurement Technical Assistance Center (DC PTAC), a program that supports local businesses by strengthening their procurement opportunities in the federal, state, and local government.
Officially beginning in 1985 the Procurement Technical Assistance Program (PTAP) has grown to more than 300 regional programs nationwide. Administered by the Department of Defense and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), the program provides matching funds through cooperative agreements with state and local governments for the establishment of PTACs to provide procurement assistance. The District received a grant award for its PTAP for 2013 and marks the first grant award from DLA since the pilot program was launched in 2010. DC PTAC provides free technical assistance and advisory services to local businesses looking to successfully procure and perform in the government contracting arena.
“DSLBD continues to push for new programs that will help small businesses succeed in the local economy,” said Robert Summers, Interim Director of DSLBD. “DC PTAC reflects DSLBD’s commitment to empower small businesses by providing them with the necessary tools to compete and build capacity while promoting sustainability.”
PTACs serve as a bridge between buyer and supplier, bringing knowledge of both government contracting and the capabilities of contractors to maximize fast, reliable service to the government with better quality and at lower costs.
DC PTAC is tasked with changing the current landscape of the local economy by facilitating employment and revenue opportunities for District based businesses. DC PTAC offers additional assistance through the government procurement process in reviewing proposals businesses prepare for potential contracts as well as assistance to businesses interested in developing new customers and revenue streams.
