The goals of the mission are to increase business opportunities for DC businesses and to promote related business activities in the District and South Africa.

The initial Brookland SIP was completed in 2009 and was designed to help business owners: increase customer foot traffic; improve sales; leverage private investment in commercial properties; and brand the 12th Street, NE commercial district as an attractive and safe shopping destination.

Each year, the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s National Main Street Center recognizes exceptional Main Street communities whose successes serve as a model for comprehensive commercial district revitalization.

The aim of dslbd.dc.gov will be to connect District residents and small businesses with the information they need to access a wide variety of programs such as the DC Procurement Technical Assistance Center, ExportDC, and the Certified Business Enterprise Program, to name a few.
