October is recognized as National Women's Small Business Month, and there is no better time to celebrate, uplift, and empower local women-owned businesses in the District. There are currently over 12 million women-owned businesses in the U.S., generating nearly $1.8 trillion.
Over 47% percent of D.C. businesses are owned by women entrepreneurs, with Black women representing the fastest-growing demographic of entrepreneurs in the U.S.
Whether you own a small business or are an aspiring entrepreneur, DSLBD has resources available to you to help you in your entrepreneurship journey.
As we celebrate women entrepreneurs this month and throughout the year, we must continue to support their businesses as they continue thriving for years to come. - Kristi C. Whitfield, Director of the Department of Small and Local Business Development
