DC’s Only Free Overnight Arts Festival Celebrates Thriving Local Arts Scene in Six DC Main Streets Neighborhoods

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Saturday, September 23, Art All Night: Made in DC, Washington, DC’s only free overnight arts festival, will return with an all-new lineup of visual and performing arts exhibits, workshops, and performances. Art All Night highlights the most innovative and creative artistic forces in the city while providing a unique around-the-clock experience for residents and visitors.

“Art All Night is a unique event that provides us one more opportunity to highlight and celebrate the artists and makers who keep DC creative,” said Mayor Bowser. “For eight straight hours in September, we are able to travel around DC admiring and enjoying the work of the artists and innovators who help us define who we are as a city and keep our creative economy thriving.”

From 7 pm on September 23 until 3 am on September 24, attendees can move around the city experiencing photography, sculpture, painting, crafts, fashion, music, dance, theater, silent discos, film, poetry, and more in a variety of unique indoor and outdoor spaces across six DC Main Streets neighborhoods. Art All Night will take place during 202Creates, a month-long showcase of DC’s diverse and vibrant creative economy. Started by Mayor Bowser in 2016, 202Creates engages residents, government agencies, and DC’s creative community through a series of events and activities that promote and celebrate the artists, makers, and entrepreneurs who contribute to the District’s thriving creative industries.

Each of the six participating Art All Night neighborhoods has prepared an exciting lineup of visual and performing arts:

Congress Heights: Celebrate the history and future of Gospel, Blues, Jazz, R&B, Rap, Hip-Hop, Go-Go, Reggae, Soca, Latin, Cuban, and Afro-Beat at the Art All Night: Chocolate City Edition.

Dupont Circle: Stroll through the many galleries thriving among museums, embassies, shops, and restaurants in DC’s dynamic residential and commercial Dupont Circle area.

H Street: Take part in a stimulating adventure that challenges creative boundaries and invites guests to listen, engage, emote, and explore.

North Capitol: Honor and celebrate life and art with an exhilarating evening of performance-based art and live visual displays.

Shaw: Enjoy live music, dance, painting, body painting, photography, fashion, and DIY art at the sixth Art All Night in Shaw.

Tenleytown: Experience the neighborhood’s vibrant art scene through the eyes of local artists, musicians, and dancers with interactive art, yoga, kid-friendly arts and crafts, live music, a poetry slam, and more.

Art All Night is sponsored by the Department of Small and Local Business Development and the Commission on the Arts and Humanities and presented by the Main Streets programs in Congress Heights, Dupont Circle, H Street, North Capitol, Shaw, and Tenleytown. In 2016, Shaw Main Street won an Innovation Award from the National Main Street Center for their Art All Night event.
