DC Civic Leader is Deeply Missed

Washington, DC—With great sadness, the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) mourns the passing of Albert R. Hopkins, Jr. who passed after battling pancreatic cancer. “Butch” was a tireless advocate for the Anacostia community and a leader in efforts to bring economic opportunity and development East of the River.  He will be deeply missed.

“Butch Hopkins was a champion for the development of our city, particularly those areas most in need,” said DSLBD Director Harold Pettigrew. “In a career of service, he made the Anacostia Economic Development Corporation into one of the leading economic development organizations East of the River and was a driving force in the development of the Anacostia Business Improvement District.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, and we honor him by continuing the work to which he dedicated his life.”
