Mayor Bowser to Open Made in DC Retail and Café Store

Sunday, October 15, 2017
DC-based Store will Sell Products Created Exclusively by DC Residents, Highlights Obviously DC Week

(Washington, DC) – On Monday, October 16, at 11:30 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will kick off Obviously DC week with the opening of Shop Made in DC – a new brick and mortar retail and café space stocked exclusively with DC-based brands. A groundbreaking initiative from DC Department of Small and Local Business Development’s (DSLBD) Made in DC program – a brand designed to capture, highlight, and promote the intellectual and creative genius of DC’s local maker community, Shop Made in DC will create a low-entry to marketplace opportunity for creative entrepreneurs to sell their goods and increase visibility of brands while stimulating the local economy.

Shop Made in DC was formed through a partnership between DSLBD, Golden Triangle Business Improvement District, Boston Properties, People Make Place, and Neighborhood Restaurant Group (NRG). Managed by NRG, the café will feature a monthly rotation of fast-casual food from DC brands, alongside a coffee program ran by Small Planes Coffee, which will offer a full menu of espresso beverages and cold brews.

The grand opening of Shop Made in DC continues Mayor Bowser’s commitment to expanding DC’s innovation economy and serving as a national model for inclusion and diversity. Any small business owner manufacturing a local product is eligible for the Made in DC program, and for more information, visit www.thisismadeindc.com.
